About us

The festival’s curatorial approach emphasizes diversity and experimentation, combining Macedonian, Balkan, and international short films that explore social, political, and human themes. Particular attention is given to the Screendance Selection, curated in collaboration with FuoriFormato (Genoa), which remains the only program of its kind in Macedonia dedicated to the dialogue between movement and cinema. Collaborations with Filmart (Serbia), Slow Food Macedonia, Goongula, Javen Prostor, and the EDUCUTS educational network enrich the festival’s reach and allow it to link local audiences with wider cultural and professional ecosystems. Through these connections, Winter Apricots continues to act as a catalyst for the diffusion of Macedonian film abroad, following the example of its 2023 collaboration with the Terre da Film Festival in Canelli, Italy. Every edition is guided by the belief that film is more than entertainment, it is a bridge between worlds, a tool for reflection, and a space for empathy. During the festival days, Prilep becomes an international and fertile place for cultural and social dialogue, a reflective island where art generates conversation and belonging. Investing in Winter Apricots means supporting a project that unites artistic excellence with community growth, cultural decentralization, and sustainable development. The festival’s long-term goal is to grow organically and responsibly, remaining deeply rooted in its community while continuing to shape Macedonia’s creative landscape and affirming that culture, when shared, becomes a force of transformation.
